Eliminating Disparities
SisterREACH US: Eliminating Disparities in Breast and Cervical Cancer
SisterREACH US, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded project, is a five-year capacity building program that focuses on eliminating breast and cervical cancer disparities among Black women, ages 18 - 64.
In our two-targeted cities: Atlanta and Chicago, we work with affiliated partner organizations: the Center for Black Women's Wellness in Atlanta, GA, and South Side Help Center in Chicago, IL, to build their capacity to identify and apply evidence-based programs and culturally and gender-based community practices for improving the health outcomes of Black women.
We do this by exploring what is known about breast cancer disparities, identifying the social determinants that contribute to these growing disparities and applying the most promising community-driven, evidence-and practice-based interventions. Our aim is to prepare our affiliate organizations to become active community partners in improving health outcomes and reducing barriers for Black women who experience delays in testing following abnormal screening results and in receiving care after receiving breast cancer diagnosis.
