Policy and Advocacy
Breast cancer has not only become a major public health issue but a political one as well. Public policy plays an important role in shaping breast cancer research, access to care and regulation.
Moving Beyond Pink is a national effort that advocates for proactive public health policies that save lives and reduces breast cancer disparities. The Imperative works with local, state, and national organizations, advocates, health care professionals, and policymakers to identify emerging issues and develop strategies to make reducing breast cancer disparities a national priority.
Our policy priorities and strategies:
- Promote early detection and timely diagnosis
- Risk reduction for women at highest risk
- Invest in targeted research on Black women
- Advocate for access to innovative diagnostic technologies
- Develop a culturally competent health care workforce
Increasing the policy and advocacy capacity of Black women and girls is a crucial component of Moving Beyond Pink. Through policy education and advocacy training the Imperative is committed to building the skills and confidence of Black women and girls to educate their policymakers about breast cancer disparities and create policy change.
