Dear Friend,
Because you are dedicated to improving the health status of Black women, I invite you to join us as we celebrate 25 years of working to ensure more positive health and wellness outcomes for the nation’s 19.5 million Black women and girls, June 20-21, 2008, in Washington, D.C., at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.
At our “Reflect, Rejoice, Renew: Celebrating 25 Years of Promoting Health and Well-Being for Black Women,” celebration we will provide you with many opportunities to hear the latest research, learn what works in the community, and help rebuild a national network of advocates.
On Friday, June 20, 2008, we will host a one-day conference, examining critical health issues for Black women – overweight and obesity, HIV/AIDS and mental health. We will also host a 25th Anniversary Celebration Awards Luncheon where we will present our “Women Who Dare” award to two incredible Black women devoted to helping Black women lead healthier lives: Dr. Vivian W. Pinn, director of research on women’s health at the National Institutes of Health, and Susan L. Taylor, editor emerita of Essence magazine and founder of the National Cares Mentoring Movement. And, Loretta J. Ross will receive the first-ever Byllye Y. Avery Community Health Activist Award.
On Saturday, June 21, 2008, we will conclude with a Walking for Wellness™ 5K event on the National Mall, featuring health screenings, fitness demonstrations and fun activities for the entire family.
Don’t miss this opportunity to unite with 1,500 Black women, community health advocates and educators, researchers, government officials and funders and convey to a nation that “Black women’s health matters.” It is time for us to renew our commitment to Black women’s health. It is time to come together to seek solutions on some of the health issues that disproportionately affect Black Women. It is time to harness our collective power and discuss strategies on how we can change the health outcomes of Black women.
Register today! Space is limited. If you have questions, please call our conference message center at (202) 289-6285 or e-mail us at 25thAnniversary@BlackWomensHealth.ORG.
In health and wellness,
Eleanor Hinton Hoytt
